Maresca clarifies trust comment in Man City press conference

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca clarified one of his answers during his first press conference since the club was found guilty of breaking more than 100 Premier League rules. Speaking ahead of Sunday's game against Liverpool, the Italian initially said he completely trusts the club during the ongoing process, which includes an appeal.

Manager's full backing

In his first answer, Maresca aimed to set the tone for the situation. "The only thing I can say is something that I already said. There is a process ongoing and in this moment I completely trust the club," he said.

As the press conference continued, it was noted that Maresca had raised the possibility that his trust could disappear. The manager then asked for his original answer to be clarified to reflect how he feels.

Clarification and focus

"Sorry, that was a wrong answer. I completely trust this club in this moment, in the future - always," he said. "Thank you, I can modify the answer!"

Maresca will be hoping the team does not deviate from their performance level amid the developments off the pitch. City head to Anfield with a perfect start in the Premier League but will face a more hostile reception than usual.

"You cannot avoid it," the Italian added. "We completely understand the seriousness of the situation but it's our duty, our job to try to control the noise. The manager and the players are focused to win games, not about something different."

"Anfield is a nice pitch. Probably even more warm in terms of environment but the reason why I decided to be a manager is for this kind of game."
