Enzo Maresca said beating Liverpool at Anfield in the way that Manchester City did on Sunday will be good for the whole organisation as they fight against being found guilty of breaking more than 100 Premier League rules. Chief executive Ferran Soriano and sporting director Hugo Viana were in attendance as City won 3-0 at a ground where they have traditionally struggled.
Players affected by verdict turbulence
City manager Maresca admitted afterwards that the players had been affected by the turbulence from the guilty verdicts that landed during the international break from the independent commission. The club are appealing but are currently facing a seismic punishment that could even see them lose their place in the division.
Soriano addressed club staff with a video message when the news was confirmed and took his place in the directors box at Anfield as he usually would for the first City game after the story broke. Maresca cupped his ear to supporters at the final whistle before speaking about the importance of the club showing strength through unity.
'We were all together'
"Ferran was there, Hugo was there. We were all together," said Maresca. "For the importance of the game, Liverpool away, Anfield away. It's important from the club to be all together."
"Zero-three, Anfield away, is a great result for sure. In this moment all the organisation needs this kind of win like today so it's good for us as a coaching staff, it's good for the players, food for the fans, good for the organisations. This kind of win is good for all the club."
"My message since we have been together three days ago when they came back from the national team, has been quite clear. 'Guys, the noise will be there so it's how we learn to deal with the noise'. It's our duty to make our noise and our noise is to win games in the way we did today and be happy."
