Man City appeal: Champions League worry as Guardiola returns

Manchester City have lodged an appeal against an independent commission's finding that they are guilty of all charges related to serious breaches of Premier League financial rules. The appeal was submitted last week, following the release of a strongly worded report by the commission.

The club has been accused of breaking financial rules between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons. The independent commission concluded that more than £830million of owner funding was used to inflate revenues and enable the club to comply with Premier League and UEFA regulations through a series of 'sham' arrangements.

City's stance and concerns

City remain adamant they have done nothing wrong, insisting they are innocent and that they have a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence to support their position. However, senior figures within English football are now reportedly concerned that City could play in the Champions League next season even if they are relegated from the Premier League this season.

In a show of support to his old club, Pep Guardiola will be back at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night to watch his old side take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Reactions and potential outcomes

Former Match of the Day host Gary Lineker believes City should 'own' their behaviour and warned they should expect to lose their titles. There is still much discussion about potential outcomes, with the situation continuing to develop.
