Former Prime Minister Liz Truss delivered an unprintable response when asked to describe broadcaster Piers Morgan during a rapid-fire round on the Daily Expresso podcast. The exchange marks the latest flare-up in a long-running feud between the two.
On the podcast, hosted by JJ Anisiobi, Ms Truss was asked to sum up several high-profile figures in a few words, including Andy Burnham, Nigel Farage and her former Chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng. When Mr Morgan's name came up, she paused before laughing.
Unprintable Reply
"Erm… it wasn't very polite," she confessed. "I thought this was a family podcast, I can't say it on air." Mr Anisiobi reminded her of her previous appearance on the show in October 2025, when she began by saying "b******!" Refusing to back down, she replied: "Ok, I'll say b****** again then."
The exchange follows repeated clashes between the former Tory leader and the veteran presenter. Their feud has intensified in recent months over Ms Truss's 49-day tenure in No. 10 and her refusal to accept blame for the economic turmoil that followed her September 2022 mini-budget.
Feud Origins
During an earlier face-to-face interview on Mr Morgan's show, he pressed her on her claims that an "unelected establishment" and the Bank of England sabotaged her premiership. When asked whether she could identify a single personal flaw, she deflected: "Maybe I interrupt people too much, Piers."
Mr Morgan has also repeatedly mocked the former PM over the "lettuce" incident that came to define her administration's collapse. In October 2022, the Economist noted her political lifespan was effectively the shelf life of a salad leaf, prompting the Daily Star to launch a livestream pitting an iceberg lettuce fitted with a wig against her premiership. Ms Truss resigned days later, having been outlasted by the 60p vegetable.
Continued Fallout
In 2024, campaign group Led By Donkeys unfurled a banner depicting a lettuce with the slogan "I crashed the economy" behind her during a public speaking event. She stormed off stage, branding the prank "not funny" and blaming "far-left activists". Mr Morgan publicly mocked the walkout, accusing her of "sulking" and throwing a "strop". He later opened an interview by asking whether she had become a "lettuce fan".
