Liverpool Urged to Sign Newcastle's Lewis Hall as Left-Back Target
Liverpool Told to Target Newcastle's Lewis Hall

Danny Murphy has urged Liverpool to target Newcastle United's Lewis Hall this summer, as the Reds prepare for the departure of long-serving left-back Andy Robertson. The former Liverpool midfielder believes Hall, who has impressed for the Magpies this season, could be an ideal addition to Arne Slot's squad.

Newcastle's Potential Summer Exodus

Newcastle United face a summer of uncertainty after a disappointing campaign that looks set to leave them without European football. The financial implications could force the club to sell key players, with Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon among those linked with exits. Lewis Hall, however, has emerged as one of Newcastle's standout performers, catching the eye of pundits and rival clubs alike.

Murphy's Verdict on Kerkez

Liverpool invested £40 million in Milos Kerkez last summer, but the Hungarian has struggled to consistently impress. Murphy expressed doubts over Kerkez's ability to be a regular in a title-winning side. "Kerkez is a trier and he's improved, but is he at the level Liverpool need to win league titles and Champions League? My feeling is that he's not. He's probably an understudy; he's probably a backup," Murphy told Betarades.

With Robertson set to leave when his contract expires, Liverpool may need to strengthen at left-back. Murphy believes Hall, despite being a young player, has the Premier League experience and quality to step up. "It's probably unlikely you're going to get him out because it looks like Tonali might go and Gordon might go, but if Newcastle do have to sell and you can pinch him, even if you have to pay a bit more for him, he's still a young man, he's got the Premier League experience, and I think he's been one of Newcastle's shining lights this season," he added.

Competition for Hall

Newcastle are expected to resist selling Hall unless necessary, with Bruno Guimaraes publicly committing his future to the club. However, with Bayern Munich monitoring Gordon and Tonali attracting interest, the Magpies may have to make difficult decisions. Liverpool, who already signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle last summer, could look to exploit the situation again.

Murphy also highlighted the scarcity of available top-class left-backs, noting that players at clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich would be difficult to prise away. Hall, therefore, represents a realistic target for Liverpool as they plan for life after Robertson.
