Ibrahima Konate Set to Join Real Madrid on Free Transfer

Ibrahima Konate is poised to join Real Madrid on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool, according to reports in Spain. The French defender's contract at Anfield expires on June 30, and despite talks of an extension, no agreement was reached.

Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021, making 183 appearances and winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and two Carabao Cups during his five-year spell. He has been linked with several top European clubs, but a deal with Real Madrid is reportedly already struck.

The move is contingent on Florentino Perez being re-elected as Real Madrid president in Sunday's election, with Perez widely expected to win. Konate posted an emotional farewell to Liverpool on Instagram, referencing the tragic death of teammate Diogo Jota and expressing regret at not being able to say goodbye to fans at the final game.
