The King and Queen attended a block party in Front Royal, Virginia, as their state visit to the United States drew to a close. The relaxed event featured a potluck meal, with the King and Queen contributing coronation quiche and Victoria sponge cake, prepared at the UK embassy.
The party marked a casual end to a visit that, despite its formal nature, included moments of humour amid strained US-UK relations. Earlier in the day, the King and Queen paid their respects at Arlington Cemetery, laying tributes at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The King, a former Royal Navy captain, wore his medals for the occasion.
The royal couple had earlier departed the White House, bidding farewell to President Donald Trump and first lady Melania.
