US Vice-President JD Vance is set to spend an extended summer holiday in the Cotswolds, adding to a string of high-profile vacations this year. The trip follows family holidays to Disneyland and a skiing resort in Vermont, as well as a recent kayaking outing in Ohio. Critics have questioned the amount of leave taken by Vance, who has been in office for only five months.
Vance's Cotswolds accommodation is an 18th-century manor house set in six acres of grounds, complete with a tennis court, according to the Daily Mail. The property is reportedly close to Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat farm. Clarkson has previously described Vance as a 'bearded God-botherer' and a 'twat' with 'no clue about history'.
The vice-president's holiday plans also include a visit to Foreign Secretary David Lammy and his family at Chevening, the foreign secretary's country residence, this coming weekend. Lammy has emphasised the two men's shared Christian faith as a basis for their relationship.
Vance's previous holidays have drawn protests. In March, he faced hecklers while skiing at Sugarbush resort in Vermont, and last month, his Disneyland trip was met with boos and protests, with California Governor Gavin Newsom sarcastically welcoming him on social media. Vance responded by saying he had 'a great time'.
During his Ohio kayaking trip, Vance's Secret Service team requested the Army Corps of Engineers to adjust the outflow of a lake, reportedly to create ideal conditions for the vice-president's canoeing. The move sparked controversy, with some questioning the use of government resources for personal recreation.
