Ian Wright, the former Arsenal striker and club legend, was among thousands of jubilant fans celebrating the Gunners' first Premier League title in 22 years. The ex-player joined the joyous scenes outside the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night after Manchester City's 1-1 draw with Bournemouth confirmed Arsenal as champions.
Title Clinched Without Kicking a Ball
Manchester City's failure to beat Bournemouth meant Pep Guardiola's side could no longer catch league leaders Arsenal mathematically, with the gap standing at four points and only one game remaining. The result sparked delirium across north London, with fans flocking to the stadium to celebrate their first top-flight trophy since the 2004 'Invincibles'. Flares and fireworks lit up the night sky as supporters gathered in their thousands.
Wright's Emotional Reaction
Wright, Arsenal's second-highest goal scorer of all time and a former Premier League winner with the club, was mobbed by fans singing his name outside the ground. Speaking to Premier League Productions, he said: "I was absolutely over the moon. I got in the cab, got my Mrs and my girls in the cab and I said, 'We're going down there, let's go down to the Emirates.'" He added: "It's amazing, honestly, and this club deserves it. Our fans deserve it all, around the world and everybody, we deserve this, man."
Players Celebrate at Training Ground
Arsenal's players gathered at the club's training ground to watch the City game and see themselves confirmed champions for the 14th time without kicking a ball. Celebrations ensued as the squad embraced the historic moment.
More Silverware in Sight
The Gunners' excellent campaign, made sweeter by following three successive runners-up finishes, could yet bring more silverware as they face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final at the end of this month. Before then, they complete their top-flight season with a dead-rubber visit to Crystal Palace on Sunday, the final day of the Premier League season.
