Pep Guardiola has confirmed he will leave Manchester City at the conclusion of the current season, with Sunday's Premier League fixture against Aston Villa marking his final game in charge after a decade-long tenure.
Guardiola's Legacy at Manchester City
During his 10 years at the helm, the 55-year-old Catalan manager led the club to an extraordinary 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles, the Champions League, three FA Cups, and five Carabao Cups. His most notable achievement was the historic treble in 2023, securing the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in a single season. He also masterminded a domestic treble in 2019 and a record-breaking 100-point league campaign in 2018.
Reasons for Departure
Despite his contract originally running until 2027, Guardiola stated there is no specific reason for his decision. He said: "Don't ask me the reasons I'm leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it's my time. Nothing is eternal, if it was, I would be here. Eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City."
Next Steps for Guardiola and the Club
After stepping down as manager, Guardiola will take on a new role as a global ambassador for the City Football Group. His former assistant, Enzo Maresca, is currently the favourite to succeed him as Manchester City manager.
