Florida Airport to Be Renamed After Donald Trump

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport as the President Donald J. Trump International Airport. The move is the latest in a series of tributes bearing the US president's name, including buildings, warships, and currency.

The name change, which requires approval from the Federal Aviation Administration, is set to take effect on 1 July. Trump's family business filed a trademark application for the new name in February. Separately, Florida Representative Brian Mast has introduced legislation to change the airport's three-letter code from PBI to DJT, reflecting Trump's initials.

DeSantis also worked last year to secure a parcel of land in Miami for Trump's presidential library. Trump posted a video on Truth Social showing a rendering of the library, featuring a mirrored skyscraper with his name and the American flag. The design, by Miami-based firm Bermello Ajamil, includes a replica Oval Office, rooftop gardens, and a gold statue of Trump.

Trump, a New York native, moved to Florida in 2019 and now resides primarily at his Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach. The US Treasury announced last week that Trump's signature will appear on paper currency starting this summer, the first time a sitting president has signed US money.

Other items named after Trump include a planned class of navy warships, a visa program, a government prescription drug website, and federal savings accounts for children. In December, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the United States Institute of Peace building added Trump's name. Earlier this month, a federal arts panel approved a commemorative gold coin featuring his image.
