MTG Receives Death Threats as Trump Dismisses Danger
Death threats to MTG as Trump dismisses danger

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and her family were the targets of multiple death threats on Sunday, according to police in Georgia, even as former President Donald Trump publicly insisted her life was not in danger.

Police Confirm Threats and Intimidation

Law enforcement officials in Rome, Georgia, confirmed to The Independent that two explicit emails referencing the congresswoman's family were sent on Sunday afternoon. The first arrived at 4:29 p.m. ET, followed by a second at 4:56 p.m. ET.

In a further act of intimidation, an unordered pizza was delivered to Ms Greene's address, a tactic commonly associated with 'doxxing' campaigns designed to harass and frighten individuals. The Rome Police Department verified this incident was part of their ongoing investigation.

Kelly Madden, a spokesperson for the department, provided a statement affirming their commitment to public safety. "As always, we take any threat seriously and follow established investigative procedures, regardless of political context," Ms Madden said.

Trump's Public Dismissal and 'Traitor' Accusation

Approximately two hours after the second threatening email was received, Donald Trump addressed reporters and played down the severity of the situation. Shortly before 7 p.m. ET, he coined a new, derogatory nickname for the once-loyal ally.

"Marjorie 'Traitor' Greene. I don't think her life is in danger. Frankly, I don't think anybody cares about her," the former president stated.

This public falling out marks a significant rupture within Trump's inner circle. Ms Greene, a Georgia Republican and previously a zealous MAGA acolyte, has recently become a vocal critic of Trump, notably for her demands to have the full Epstein files released to the public.

Trump later expanded on his comments in a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday night, writing, "Wacky Marjorie 'Traitor' Brown... is working overtime to try and portray herself as a victim when, in actuality, she is the cause of all of her own problems." He concluded by calling her a "Traitor to our Country!".

Greene's Furious Response and Pipe Bomb Claim

In a lengthy and furious post on social media, Marjorie Taylor Greene hit back, accusing Trump of putting "blood in the water" and creating a "feeding frenzy" that could lead to a harmful or deadly outcome.

She revealed that a "pipe bomb threat" had also been made at her construction company's office. Greene directly linked the escalating threats to Trump's "unwarranted and vicious attacks," which she characterised as a "dog whistle to dangerous radicals.".

She vehemently denied being a traitor and connected the timing of the abuse to the impending vote on the release of the Epstein files. "I love America and the American people, and I swore an oath to uphold the constitution and always do so," she wrote, defending her position.

The Rome Police Department maintains that its investigation into all credible threats continues, prioritising community safety above political affiliation.
