Clarkson Backs Miliband's Rival In Doncaster Election

Ed Miliband has expressed scepticism over Jeremy Clarkson's suggestion that he might challenge for the Labour MP's Doncaster North seat at the next general election. The TV presenter, who was born and raised in Doncaster, recently hinted on social media that he could stand to unseat the Labour majority.

Clarkson, known for hosting Top Gear and now Amazon Prime's The Grand Tour and Clarkson's Farm, wrote on X: 'People of Doncaster North. Would you like it if someone from your neck of the woods kicked him out?' Miliband, who has represented the constituency since 2005, responded to the comments on Sky News' Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips.

The Energy Secretary downplayed Clarkson's remarks, noting that the presenter had previously expressed similar intentions in 2013. 'I think he is a sort of long-standing aspirant to my seat,' Miliband said, adding that it is for others to decide if they wish to stand for Parliament.

Miliband won Doncaster North with a majority of over 9,100 at the last election, though current polling suggests he could be vulnerable to Reform UK. Clarkson has also recently criticised Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, writing in The Sun that Farage's economic 'numbers don't add up' and that he avoids scrutiny by focusing on immigration.
