Michael Carrick Underlines Man United Reality Over Permanent Manager Talks
Carrick Cools Permanent Manager Talk at Man United

Michael Carrick has insisted that his situation at Manchester United remains unchanged as discussions over his permanent appointment as manager continue. The 44-year-old has overseen a remarkable turnaround since replacing Ruben Amorim, guiding the club back to the Champions League and to the brink of a third-place finish in the Premier League with just two games remaining.

Carrick's Impact at Old Trafford

Since taking the reins, Carrick has stabilised the club and restored morale, leading United to a position where they are now favourites to secure a top-three finish. The Red Devils have also clinched a spot in next season's Champions League, a significant achievement given their earlier struggles under Amorim.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's clash with Nottingham Forest, Carrick acknowledged the inevitable questions about his future but stressed that his focus remains on the current campaign. "I can't blame you for asking about my future," he said in his pre-match press conference. "There are two games to go; apart from that, there's not much else to say. The situation is pretty clear for us all."

A Unique Club

Carrick, a former United player and long-time supporter, expressed his pride in being able to help the club during a difficult period. "It's a unique football club, a special club. I'm immensely proud to have come back and been a part of it," he added. "To help as a supporter and ex-player, caring so much about the club, to be in a position to come back and move forward was important. Making a big step back into the Champions League is good; we're happy with the work we've done so far."

When pressed on the timeline for a decision, Carrick revealed that an announcement could come before the final game of the season against Brighton next Sunday. "The future for me is going to be decided pretty soon," he confirmed. "We knew it would be towards the end of the season. Nothing has changed; there is no big swing on that. Whatever lies beyond is pretty close anyway."

United have made Carrick their first-choice candidate for the permanent role, but the interim boss remains focused on finishing the season strongly. With two games left, Carrick's priority is securing third place and ensuring the team enters the summer on a high note.
