Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, who served as principal private secretary to Prince William and Prince Harry from 2005 to 2013, has given a rare interview in which he declined to comment on the ongoing rift between the brothers. When asked about the strained relationship, he responded with four words: 'better steer clear of' the 'Harry issue'.
Former Aide's Cautious Response
In the interview with The Times, Lowther-Pinkerton said: 'Do you know what? I think I’d better steer clear of that Harry issue.' He added: 'What I would say is that I was and am very fond of him. He has huge redeeming features, and I’m a perennial optimist.' He also stated: 'I loved them both.'
Close Ties with the Princes
Lowther-Pinkerton worked closely with William and Harry during their early adult years, starting when William was 22 and Harry was 20. He developed a particularly close bond during their military careers and was later appointed godfather to Prince George in 2013. He has consistently expressed fondness for both princes.
Context of the Royal Rift
The relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William has been strained for several years, particularly since Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Harry has faced public criticism, but Lowther-Pinkerton declined to address the controversy directly, instead focusing on his personal affection for Harry.
