Love Island star Gemma Owen is set to return to screens as her famous family premieres their very own documentary series. Meet the Owens will follow former footballer Michael Owen and his family as they "juggle a horse racing empire and a chaotic home life".
What is Meet the Owens about?
Set to be released in six episodes, with all episodes available to watch on the same day, the new series will showcase a different side of the Owen family, offering viewers an insight into what the cameras don't see. Available to watch from 28 August, Prime Video has teased: "From Ballon d'Or winner to racehorse owner, Michael Owen's life after football has been anything but quiet."
"Now, Prime Video is giving viewers a front-row seat to the action with Meet the Owens, a brand-new docuseries arriving on 28 August 2026." Produced by Whisper, the series will not only follow Michael, but also his wife Louise and their four children Gemma, James, Emily and Jessica. As Michael and Louise prepare for life as empty nesters, the new show will also explore each of their children chasing their own dreams.
Gemma Owen's Love Island journey
Gemma appeared on the hit reality series in 2022 for Season 8 when she was 19 years old. She entered the luxury villa on day one and initially paired up with Liam. The spotlight was quickly captured by Davide, however, their romance sparked massive public controversy over their age difference, before she developed feelings for Luca Bish. Gemma's former boyfriend arrived as a bombshell, but she remained faithful to Luca as the pair cruised through to the finale and claimed second place.
What is Gemma Owen doing now?
Following her departure from the Love Island villa, Gemma resumed her career as a professional dressage rider and claimed multiple competition wins as she ventured into the horse racing world. She parted ways with Luca just weeks after the programme ended, in late 2022, and has maintained a fairly private romantic life since. Her Instagram profile describes her as an "International Rider" and she frequently shares updates with her 1.6m followers.
Prime Video states that "Gemma is a presenter with millions of social media followers", but the programme will show her "swapping the screen for the saddle, training at her dad's stables with the goal of racing at Glorious Goodwood". Taking to Instagram previously, Gemma revealed "exciting news" as she announced: "For the last six months I have been working extremely hard on an exciting and challenging project. With the help of Hugo Palmer, @frannynortonn and everyone at our family racing stables @manorhousestables I have been training both on the gallops and physically in the gym to become a jockey to take part in the prestigious and iconic Markel Magnolia Cup on July 30th. @goodwood_races. Myself and the other eleven incredible ladies taking part have dedicated huge amounts of time and effort with the motivation of raising funds for the worthy charity @educationaboveall_eaa."

Gemma's estimated net worth stands at around £1million, thanks to her triumphs in the fashion world, social media influence and entrepreneurial pursuits post-Love Island. In 2023, the Tab reported that Gemma was one of the wealthiest Love Island girls, having achieved significant success beyond the villa.
