President Donald Trump has said he is “happy” that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have left the US for the UK, declaring he is “not a fan”.
Return to the UK
Last month Prince Harry and Meghan Markle confirmed they would be returning to the UK. The couple have relocated from California, six years after the Megxit crisis, with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Speaking today, Mr Trump was asked how he felt about Harry and Meghan leaving the US.
Trump's comments
He said: "I'm happy about it. I was not a fan. I had a very good relationship with the Queen, really good, I got to know her very well."
"A really good relationship with King Charles. I knew him as Prince Charles and King Charles. I've known him for a long time, he's great, a great guy."
"I thought they treated the Royal Family with great disrespect. I didn't like it. I didn't like the way she acted. I thought she was terribly disrespectful to the Queen, to King Charles."
"Maybe I'm different, I wouldn't have taken them back quite frankly. If I were the Royal Family I would not have taken them back."
Family settling in
Archie, seven, and five-year-old Lili have been enrolled in British schools, ready to start in September. The family is said to be settling in the UK for an “extended period” of time, amid speculation as to how long they will stay and where they will live.
