CBS cancelled the 33-year franchise last July, describing it as a financial decision. The cancellation came days after Colbert criticised CBS's parent company for settling a legal dispute with Trump, which Colbert called a 'big fat bribe'.
Colbert's final episode drew 6.74 million viewers, the most-watched of his 11-year tenure. The finale featured appearances by Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, John Oliver, and Paul McCartney.
