Donald Trump erupted at a female reporter in a furious Oval Office clash, repeatedly ordering her to "be quiet" and branding her a "fake reporter" in front of a 10-year-old boy.
Oval Office confrontation
The fiery exchange unfolded as the US president welcomed 16-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams to the White House after he rescued the youngster from powerful waves off the California coast last month. The boy, Nathanial Rai, was also sitting in the Oval Office alongside Williams and his family.
Trump appeared to drag Nathanial into the confrontation, turning to the youngster and asking whether he also found the reporter disrespectful. "You're very disrespectful in front of this young man, okay? Don't you find her disrespectful? He understands," Trump said before repeatedly ordering CNN reporter Kristen Holmes to stop speaking.
Reporter told to be quiet
"Quiet, quiet, quiet," he told her, before accusing her of reporting "fake news" and a "loud, boisterous person". Trump then launched another extraordinary attack, telling the journalist: "Be quiet. Be quiet. Be quiet. You're a fake reporter, and you report fake news."
