Trump baffles crowd by asking if vegans 'eat lettuce all day long'
Trump asks if vegans 'eat lettuce all day long'

President Donald Trump baffled a crowd in Texas while trying to criticize a Democratic candidate, stumbling over the pronunciation of 'vegan' and making a bizarre remark about lettuce. The comment came as Trump campaigns for Republican candidates ahead of the November midterm elections.

Trump's Vegan Comment Draws Attention

'I didn't know what the hell a vegan was,' Trump said, pronouncing 'vegan' as 'vay-gan'. 'A vegan is vegetables. A vegan is eating a piece of lettuce all day long?'

The ramble drew attention, mostly for its falsity – Texas Senate candidate James Talarico once said it was 'existential to reduce meat consumption', but does not follow a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle. Talarico even shared a video of him eating a barbecue sandwich and said: 'They've even called me a vegan, and those are fighting words in the state of Texas.'

Trump's Claims About Talarico

Trump added: 'Vegans don't get elected in Texas. So now, he's out and he's telling people, 'no I actually love meat', and he goes to barbecues all the time because he wants to show that he eats meat. But what they don't show is that he's going to the back of the tent and throwing up all over the place.'

The President went on to talk about his aspirin use, which he formerly said keeps his blood 'thin'. 'I take an aspirin a day,' he said. 'I don't know if it works, but psychologically I need it. It thins the hell out of your blood, I guess. I don't know if it works or not, but I've been doing it for a long time.'

Trump's Health Under Scrutiny

Since retaking office, Trump's health has sparked conversation, from his apparent sleepiness to his bruised hand. Trump's doctor, Sean Barbabella, said Trump takes around 325mg of aspirin daily to prevent a heart attack or stroke. The average dose is roughly 100mg. The White House has also addressed Trump's hand bruising, claiming it was from 'frequent handshaking'.
