True Brit Entertainment, a UK film distributor founded in 2023, has entered administration after three years of trading. The company specialised in securing UK rights for significant theatrical releases, including the recently launched Hugh Jackman film, The Death of Robin Hood.
Established by veteran film executive Zygi Kamasa, the company helped co-finance and produce numerous British film and television projects during its time in operation. It was confirmed at the end of September that the business had entered administration, with administrators appointed earlier this week, pointing to "extremely challenging market conditions" as the reason for the decision.
Company background and leadership
The company was backed by talent management and entertainment firm Three Six Zero. True Brit outlined its ambition to become the "foremost distributor of British films in the UK".
Chief executive Kamasa has spent over 25 years in the industry, helping to back independent British films and television projects. He also helped fund more than 50 British films, as well as overseeing the theatrical release of over 300 films across the UK, including box office hits from The Hunger Games to La La Land.
Previously, Kamasa served as group chief executive of Marv Studios, where he worked alongside director and producer Matthew Vaughn, and was chief executive of Lionsgate UK & Europe until 2020.
Administration details and next steps
Lloyd Hinton and Kelly Knight, both of Insolve Plus Ltd, were appointed joint liquidators on October 5, according to The Gazette.
Speaking to Deadline about the administration, Kamasa said: "In extremely challenging market conditions, the company has taken the difficult decision to enter administration."
"An independent specialist has now been appointed to oversee the company and assess the options available, with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for the company and its creditors."
Both True Brit Entertainment and Insolve Plus have been approached for comment.
