In the latest episode of HBO's Euphoria, Sydney Sweeney's character Cassie Howard delivered one of the most provocative scenes of the series. Episode four of season three, titled Kitty Likes to Dance, saw Cassie reopening her OnlyFans account and engaging in a steamy lesbian kiss, along with a drug-fueled party that involved snorting cocaine.
Cassie's Desperate Move
The episode begins with Cassie restarting her fetish content to make money after her new husband, Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), was attacked by a loan shark on their wedding night. Nate lost his little toe in the incident, and the couple rushed to the hospital for reattachment surgery. Despite Nate's attempts to stay optimistic, Cassie grew frustrated and demanded to know the exact amount of his debt. He finally admitted it was around a million dollars.
'I feel sick,' Cassie replied, declaring that the 'fairytale is over.' She then contacted Nate's ex, talent manager Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie), for help. Maddy gave Cassie a makeover, dyeing her hair platinum blonde and taking her for a manicure.
New Beginnings
Cassie began taking new photos for her OnlyFans, posing in a patterned bikini by a pool. She also pawned her wedding ring and moved into her own place. Maddy then took Cassie to a party hosted by major influencer Brandon Fontaine (Jeff Wahlberg) to gain more social media exposure. Maddy warned Cassie to entice Brandon but not to sleep with him.
At the party, Cassie caught Brandon's eye while dancing and making out with another blonde woman. She then danced with Brandon, who invited her and the woman to a private room for cocaine. Cassie snorted a line from the other woman's bellybutton, then unzipped her leopard print bodysuit and had Brandon snort cocaine off her stomach before rubbing the rest into her intimate area.
Viral Fame
Brandon told Cassie, 'I wanna f**k your brains out,' as he took off his shirt. At that moment, Maddy's crew burst in and filmed the scene. 'Hey Brandon, who's your new friend?' Maddy asked. 'It's just me, Cassie. And that's my handle,' Cassie said, looking into the camera to promote herself. The clip quickly went viral.
Fan reaction was mixed. Some viewers expressed boredom with Cassie's ongoing humiliation, while others praised her for working hard for her money. One tweet read: 'Cassie rubbing coke on her meow meow this #euphoria s**t gets weird I'm OUT.' Another wrote: 'Cassie WORKING for her money I'll give her that.'
Rue's Legal Troubles
The episode also focused on Rue (Zendaya), who was arrested after police found drugs in her car. She lied to detectives about never going to Mexico, but they produced a photo of her with a drug dealer there. They warned she could face up to 20 years in prison for each death linked to the fentanyl she trafficked. To avoid prison, Rue agreed to become a confidential informant for the DEA. Her drugs were swapped for sugar pills, and spyware was installed on her phone.
Rue returned to her job at a strip club owned by Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). Meanwhile, Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer) got an opportunity to paint for a TV show but created a piece featuring male genitalia, causing trouble for her friend Lexi Howard (Maude Apatow), who works as an assistant to showrunner Patty Lance (Sharon Stone).
Strip Club Confrontation
At the club, Rue was accused of using drugs by her boss. She admitted to using to avoid further questions. Later, she witnessed a newcomer named Kitty hooking up with multiple men in the champagne room. Rue asked Kitty if she was being forced to work there, which was overheard by another stripper, Magick (Rosalia), who reported it to manager Big Eddy (Kadeem Hardison).
A DEA agent warned Rue via her phone that she was compromised. Rue then discredited Magick by accusing her of having drugs in her locker. During the confrontation, armed robbers stormed the office and shot Big Eddy in the stomach to break into the safe. Rue identified Faye (Chloe Cherry) as the getaway driver. The episode ends with Big Eddy bleeding out on the couch.
The eight-episode third season airs every Sunday, with the finale set for May 31.
