Reform MP Sarah Pochin has denied purchasing a "second home" in Anglesey, north Wales, days after raising the issue of holiday homes in Parliament. The MP for Runcorn and Helsby in Cheshire submitted a written question to the House of Commons on June 15 addressed to housing minister Matthew Pennycook.
She asked: "What assessment has he made of the potential impact of second home ownership on housing availability in coastal and rural communities."
Property purchase and registration
The Will Hayward newsletter and the Guardian reported that the MP bought an £800,000 "second home" on the south coast of Anglesey two days later. The purchase was registered on her Register of Members' Financial Interests on June 24, with the sale made on June 17. The register states she co-owns the property with her husband Jonathan.
North Wales Live contacted Reform UK and Mrs Pochin. A representative of the MP told the newspaper the property was not being used as a second home.
Spokesperson's response
They said: "The property was bought by Sarah and her husband. It was then renovated with the work carried out by local businesses. It is now being lived in by family members, who reside full time in the property and also run a business on the island. The property is not being used as a second home."
Ms Pochin and her husband also own another property on the island. This was listed on the Register of Interests on May 21 2025, shortly after she became Reform UK's first female MP following her victory in the Runcorn and Helsby by-election that month.
Existing property and connections
The spokesperson confirmed this property was a second home and had been with the family for many years. He said the family spend most weekends in the area, where her husband has strong local connections.
