Ralph Fiennes was spotted in Rome on Friday filming scenes for his upcoming film Conclave, dressed in a cardinal's scarlet robe. The 60-year-old actor plays Cardinal Lomeli in the adaptation of Robert Harris's novel, which explores the secretive process of electing a new pope after the death of the previous one.
In the film, Cardinal Lomeli leads the conclave and must uncover hidden secrets about the deceased pope before a new leader is chosen. Fiennes was seen walking around the Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia, wearing a red cassock and white rochet, as crew members filmed the scenes.
The cast also includes Stanley Tucci as Cardinal Bellini, John Lithgow as Cardinal Tremblay, and Isabella Rossellini as Sister Agnes. The film is produced by House Productions and FilmNation Entertainment, with a screenplay by Peter Straughan.
Fiennes previously starred in the dark comedy The Menu, which premiered in November 2022. In that film, he played Chef Julian Slowik, who serves a deadly meal to wealthy guests on a private island.
