Piers Morgan has issued a seven-word vow to Earl Charles Spencer after announcing he would sue him for mistakes made in his new memoir Swan Song. Morgan first demanded the first edition of the book, which focuses on Spencer's late sister Princess Diana, be “pulped”.
Swan Song claimed Morgan was working at the Mirror when it published “highly intrusive photographs of Princess Diana at the gym” in 1993. However, at the time he was working for The Sun and only joined the Mirror as editor in 1995.
Spencer apologises but Morgan pursues legal action
Though Spencer apologised for the error, with publisher Penguin stating that the point would be amended in future editions, Morgan insisted he is pursuing legal action – something Spencer later denied.
Spencer denied to The Times that he is being sued by Morgan, who clapped back on social media. Quoting the article, Morgan tweeted on X: “Oh really… OK, well in light of this denial, I will now publish our legal correspondence.”
Fans divided over Morgan's response
Fans were divided online, however, with some claiming Piers should “let it go”. One tweeted: “Bro leave that man alone and don’t always make everything about yourself! Chill out.”
Someone else, however, rushed to support the former GMB star, writing: “Earl Spencer is an attention-seeking, vile man. Sue him Piers!” Another said: “Agree with you entirely Piers. You may take a small amount of his money but his reputation as a historian will be in tatters.”
Someone else said Morgan is “stringing this one out”, while a different fan said: “Unless you’ve filed with the courts, you’re just exchanging letters!”
