Celtic managed to keep last season's top scorer Benjamin Nygren despite summer transfer speculation, but one fan believes the Swede's recent comments show he wants to leave.
Nygren's comments raise doubts
Stephen Mulhern from Dumbarton said on the Hotline: "I was disappointed to read Benjamin Nygren saying Celtic are still trying to recover from their Champions League catastrophe. You only need to look across the water to look at our fiercest rivals, who were catapulted out of Europe not once but twice but have came back flying."
He added: "He has also mentioned the interest in him during the summer but nothing materialised, which makes me believe has his eyes on the exit door. Like overrated (Nico) Raskin, he believes he is too good for our Scottish game. But I'd remind him of the famous Jock Stein quote: 'Celtic jerseys are not for second best they don't shrink to fit inferior players'."
Gerrard's Jack suggestion rebuked
Across the city, Steven Gerrard took to social media last week to urge his old club Rangers to re-sign free agent Ryan Jack. But Peter Cooperwhite cannot see the benefit of bringing the 34-year-old back to Ibrox.
He said: "I see Steven Gerrard is touting for Rangers to sign free agent Ryan Jack. Well I don't think we need him. As good as he was for us. we've got maybe enough players. Conor Barron had to go out on loan because he fell down the pecking order and it would be the same for Jack if he can back. He would be looking for regular starts but hey I wish him all the best for his next team as he will give the a good turn for sure."
Refereeing debate continues
Club football has taken a back seat for the international break, but the debate around refereeing in Scotland never stops.
Scott Gowers from Edinburgh commented: "Last season we saw the SPFL. being allowed by the SFA to break protocol in their normal whoever is leading at the split and the last day fixtures. This a move that favoured Celtic. Just recently we had an Old Firm double header which the SFA broke a normal rotational official change by allowing the very controversial official Nick Walsh to officiate in some capacity two weeks running for the Old Firm encounters (referee and VAR)."
He added: "Rangers on this occasion never caused Walsh any reason to implement his normal frustrations on Rangers and Rangers went onto win both games. Amazingly Nick Walsh was happy with Camilo Duran's challenge on Raskin, just as he was happy with Austin Trusty kicking Jack Butland in the head but still remains the only man in the world who saw violent conduct by Diomande when he sent the Rangers player off against Dundee Utd."
Gowers concluded: "The SFA keep saying they are in no way biased but their running of the game and constant changing protocol which evidently seem to favour Celtic unfortunately doesn't seem to confirm their non bias statements."
