Nigel Farage declares £270k gold bullion payment

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has declared a £270,000 payment from Direct Bullion for promoting gold bullion, his largest single payment for work outside his role as an MP. The declaration appears in his latest register of financial interests, which states the sum was paid for an estimated four hours of work per month over a three-month period.

Brand ambassador role and previous payments

Farage works as a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion and has registered several other payments from the company in the past. The Clacton MP also declared earnings of £18,402 for an estimated six hours of presenting on GB News, according to the same register entry.

Questions over £5 million gift

Farage continues to face questions about a £5 million gift he received from Thai-based billionaire Christopher Harborne. The Reform leader has argued he did not need to declare the gift because it was given before he announced his intention to stand for Parliament in 2024 and was not related to politics. He has offered various explanations, including that it was for personal security and a reward for his Brexit campaigning.

In recent interviews, Farage insisted the gift was a wholly private matter and refused to say whether he had spent any of it on security or other purposes. Parliament's standards commissioner is investigating whether the gift should have been registered.

Spokesman's response

A spokesman for Farage said: "As has previously been reported and declared, Nigel Farage is a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion."
