Melinda Gates Breaks Silence on Ex-Husband's Epstein File Appearance

Melinda French Gates has broken her silence regarding the controversial appearance of her former husband, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, in the recently released Jeffrey Epstein files. The philanthropist, who divorced the billionaire in 2021 after 27 years of marriage, has spoken publicly for the first time about the distressing revelations.

Relief and Sadness in First Public Comments

In an emotional interview with NPR's Wild Card podcast this week, the 61-year-old expressed complex feelings about the situation. "I am so happy to be away from all the muck that was there," Melinda stated, while simultaneously admitting to experiencing "unbelievable sadness" upon seeing her ex-husband's name mentioned in the millions of documents released by the US Justice Department.

The documents contain explosive claims from the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Among the most serious allegations is Epstein's assertion that Bill Gates requested antibiotics he could "surreptitiously give" to Melinda after allegedly contracting a sexually transmitted infection from "Russian girls."

Gates Foundation Spokesperson Denies All Claims

A spokesperson for Bill Gates has vehemently denied these allegations, describing them as "absolutely absurd and completely false." The representative further stated that "the only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein's frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame."

Melinda addressed the media attention surrounding the Epstein files directly during her podcast appearance. "For me, it's personally hard whenever those details come up, right? Because it brings back memories of some very, very painful times in my marriage," she revealed.

Epstein's Email Claims About Foundation Role

The released documents include emails in which Epstein claimed he had decided to resign from a role with the Gates Foundation and BG3, a think tank founded by Bill Gates. According to Epstein's correspondence, this decision followed his involvement in what he described as "a severe martial dispute between Melinda and Bill."

In another email sent to himself, Epstein wrote about being asked to participate in activities that ranged from "the morally inappropriate, to the ethically unsound" and potentially crossed into illegal territory. These claims form part of the broader document release that continues to generate international attention.

Personal Reflections on Epstein's Victims

Melinda expressed particular distress about the young women allegedly victimized by Epstein. "No girl should ever be put in the situation that they were put in by Epstein and whatever was going on with all of the various people around him," she stated emphatically. "I mean, it's just - it's beyond heartbreaking. I remember being those ages those girls were. I remember my daughters being those ages."

Regarding accountability for the questions raised by the Epstein files, Melinda was clear about where responsibility lies. "Whatever questions remain there... for those people, and for even my ex-husband, they need to answer to those things, not me," she told the podcast host.

The revelations come nearly three years after the Gates' high-profile divorce announcement in May 2021, which ended one of the world's most prominent philanthropic partnerships. The couple continue to work together through their foundation while navigating their separate personal lives in the public eye.
