The Duchess of Sussex's biggest problem isn't being constantly rejected by Hollywood, according to an opinion piece by Jess Phillips, Showbiz Editor. Even if Meghan returned to acting, public opinion has plummeted to a point where it's almost irreparable.
Failed Projects and Mocked Appearances
In recent months and years, Meghan has seen her Spotify deal fall apart, her Netflix show cancelled, and her various projects slated. Meghan tried MasterChef Australia, while Prince Harry appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and James Corden's Fox show – and every appearance was mocked.
Last-Ditch Rom-Com Attempt
Now, Meghan and Harry's last-ditch attempt at carving out a niche in the industry is producing a series of rom-coms set for release in the next few years. They're working on both The Wedding Vow and Meet Me At the Lake. Since neither of them are likely to make cameo appearances, perhaps the films will be good enough on their own to fly under the radar for Sussex haters.
No Way Back Into Hollywood
If that doesn't happen, there seems to be no other way into Hollywood for the duke and duchess. Short of an appearance on Dancing With the Stars, there doesn't seem to be any way of the pair winning back the public. Even if Meghan went back to acting, whether that's a Suits reboot or a completely new TV project, she'd be doomed.
The sad thing is, Meghan might crave the spotlight enough to insist on making an appearance in either of her upcoming film projects, whether the crew and director wants it or not. She could shoehorn herself into a cameo role or even make an appearance as herself, Duchess of Sussex.
Rom-Coms Destined to Fail
Unless Harry and Meghan let these rom-coms proceed with minimal involvement, they're destined to fail. That brings up other problems – what's the point in name-dropping the royal rejects if all it does is bring further controversy to what could have otherwise been a tasteful film? And why shell out so much cash to Harry and Meghan if they're not actually going to do any work?
It actually makes me feel sorry for Meghan, because no matter what she does, there's no winning. Is that her own fault? I'm sure a lot of people would say yes.
