Christian Brueckner, the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, has been sentenced to six weeks in prison for abusing a prison guard. The 47-year-old German, already serving a seven-year sentence for rape, was found guilty of verbally abusing a female guard at the prison where he is held.
The incident occurred in 2023 when Brueckner shouted obscenities and made threats towards the guard. The court in Braunschweig handed down the additional sentence, which will be added to his existing term.
Brueckner is due to stand trial on Friday for five separate sexual assault charges unrelated to Madeleine McCann. The trial is expected to last until June, with enhanced security measures in place due to the high-profile nature of the case.
Madeleine McCann disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007, just days before her fourth birthday. Brueckner has been named as the prime suspect but has not been charged in connection with her disappearance.
