Man City appeal verdict: Premier League clubs split on punishment

Manchester City have launched an appeal against the independent panel's guilty verdict on breaches of Premier League financial rules. The Premier League confirmed that the club was found guilty on 114 of the 115 charges.

Sham sponsorships and inflated income

In their statement, the Premier League said the independent panel found City had arranged 'sham' sponsorships to artificially inflate their income by just under £900million. City deny this and claim they have 'irrefutable evidence' that will prove their innocence.

Appeal timeline and possible sanctions

City have confirmed they have put in an appeal, which a separate independent panel will hear within 12 weeks. If unsuccessful, the club could face expulsion from the Premier League, points deductions, transfer embargoes, or huge fines. Premier League teams remain split on the appropriate punishment.
