Roy Keane's scathing remarks about Jordan Henderson's role in the England squad have resurfaced after the midfielder was controversially included in Thomas Tuchel's 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Keane's 2021 Criticism
The Manchester United legend questioned Henderson's value to the team, saying: "I've heard a lot of people say they want him around the place. For what? Does he do card tricks? Does he have a sing song? Does he do quizzes in the evening? What does he do?"
Henderson's Career Since
Since those comments, Henderson left Liverpool in 2023 for Saudi side Al-Ettifaq, then moved to Ajax after six months, and later returned to the Premier League with Brentford. He has made 33 appearances for the Bees.
Henderson addressed criticism of his England role last year, stating: "I don't think I need to address it. I have shown what I can do for England over the years. The most important people are the manager, the coaching staff and the players."
World Cup Prospects
Should Henderson feature in the tournament, it would be his fifth major international competition. He was omitted from the Euro 2024 squad as England reached the final.
Some pundits argue that Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton or Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White deserved the spot instead.
