Kate Garraway Opens Up About New Relationship with Liam Halligan

Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway has spoken publicly for the first time about her new relationship with economist and journalist Liam Halligan, describing it as 'lovely'. The 59-year-old presenter was seen supporting Halligan at a charity cycling event last week, sparking romance rumours.

Speaking at the Chelsea Flower Show, Garraway told The Mirror: 'It is lovely. I suppose it is!' She admitted the relationship is in its early stages and that they have barely had time for a proper date, adding: 'I don’t want to jinx it!'

Halligan, an Irish-British economist who presents The Telegraph's Planet Normal podcast, recently wrote about their romance in The Spectator, noting a 'definite spark'. The pair were reportedly friendly with Garraway's late husband, Derek Draper, who died in January 2024 after a long battle with Covid.

Garraway, who has two children with Draper, said she has been consumed by caring for her unwell parents, which has limited time for dates. She joked that Halligan has been asking when they can actually go on a proper date now that they are in the papers.

The presenter, who has documented her husband's illness in TV programmes, described the romance as 'a bit of light relief'. She also spoke about her love of gardening, confessing her own garden is currently 'shameful' due to other commitments.
