Hayden Panettiere death update as coroner issues statement

Hayden Panettiere's body is ready to be released to her family, the Greenville County Coroner's Office has confirmed, as the investigation into her death continues. The 36-year-old actress was found unresponsive in a South Carolina apartment on Sunday, August 16, and an autopsy was performed the following day.

Coroner's statement and toxicology timeline

The coroner's office told the New York Post that Hayden's body will be released once her family has decided on a funeral home. A full timeline for the toxicology report is typically eight to 12 weeks, but results can arrive sooner or later.

Authorities are continuing to investigate what drugs or alcohol may have been in her body at the time of her death. There is no evidence to suggest that Hayden had consumed illicit substances.

No signs of trauma

The coroner's representative added: "No signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death. This investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details are available for release at this time."

According to reports, Narcan was found in the apartment where the actress died. The life-saving device is used to dispense fast-acting medicine to reverse an opioid overdose.

Career and personal struggles

Hayden, who first found fame at just four years old, was found unresponsive by an unidentified "acquaintance," authorities said without confirming their identity. She was best known for her roles in Heroes, Nashville, and the Scream franchise.

She first appeared on screen at 11 months old in adverts before landing key roles as a child on the soaps One Life to Live and Guiding Light. In more recent years, Hayden had been open about her battles with addiction and postpartum depression. She checked into rehab in 2015 for postpartum depression treatment, and in 2020, she sought treatment for alcohol and drug abuse, spending eight months in rehab.
