Guardian Sport Wins Publisher of Year at SJA Awards

The Guardian’s head of sport, Will Woodward, and tennis correspondent Tumaini Carayol proudly displayed the sports publisher of the year award at the prestigious Sports Journalists’ Association (SJA) awards evening held on Monday. The event, which took place at the London Palladium for the first time in its history, saw Guardian Sport clinch two top prizes.

Guardian Named Sports Publisher of the Year

The Guardian was awarded sports publisher of the year at the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards. The SJA judges praised the Guardian’s coverage as “a selection box of delights, consistently catering for many tastes,” highlighting the breadth and quality of its sports journalism.

Jonathan Liew’s Fifth Columnist of the Year Win

Jonathan Liew was named columnist of the year for the fifth time in eight years, a remarkable achievement. He also earned bronze in the football journalist of the year category. A delighted Liew said: “I wasn’t expecting to win this one, I respect the people on the shortlist so this one means a lot.”

Other Guardian Winners

Suzanne Wrack won bronze in the women’s football journalist of the year category, while Andy Bull secured bronze in the sports feature writer of the year (long form) category. The Guardian’s head of sport, Will Woodward, commented: “It’s an exciting time to be working at the Guardian.”
