Bride Seeks Divorce Day After Wedding Over Groom's Cake Stunt

A bride has decided to divorce her husband just one day after their wedding, following a humiliating cake incident at the reception. The woman, who wrote to Slate's Dear Prudence advice column, explained that her only hard rule for the wedding was that her husband should not rub cake in her face. Instead, he grabbed her head and shoved it into the cake, causing her to panic due to her claustrophobia stemming from a past car accident.

The bride immediately told her new husband she was 'done' with him and left the reception. The next day, she informed him that the marriage was over. However, she has since been inundated with calls from family members urging her to give him a second chance, claiming she is overreacting. Despite their pleas, she remains firm in her decision and is seeking a divorce or annulment.

In her letter, the bride wrote: 'I got married just before Christmas and am hoping to be divorced or annulled by the end of January.' She described the incident as planned, noting that the cake was destroyed and the groom had cupcakes as backup. Prudence advised her to proceed with the divorce, calling the husband's actions a 'red flag' about his lack of respect for her wishes.

The story was later shared on Reddit's Wedding Shaming forum, where users expressed shock at the groom's behaviour. One commenter said: 'It's not even a cutesy splat of cake on the nose, he slammed her head into it and humiliated her.' Another added: 'He didn't just not respect her only boundary, he found the worst, most aggressive way possible to violate it.'
