Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins faced several technical difficulties during Thursday's live broadcast of ITV's Good Morning Britain. The presenters were discussing changes to PIP payments with commentators Ayesha Hazarika and Sarah Vine when an unusual sound interrupted the conversation.
On-Air Technical Glitch
Ayesha Hazarika paused mid-sentence after noticing a strange noise. Charlotte Hawkins confirmed: “I don't know what is going on. We've got a bit of malfunctioning equipment. I can assure you that's nothing coming from us, it's from under the desk. Hopefully we'll be able to figure out what's going on.”
Hazarika then joked: “Richard, was that you?” Madeley replied: “It's always the bloke, isn't it! It's always the guy!” Hawkins added: “We'll just blame Richard.”
Heatwave in the Studio
Later, Madeley remarked: “God, isn't it hot in here?” Hawkins began fanning herself, and Madeley apologised: “I can only apologise. Our systems have broken down, it's very hot.” The presenters were soon brought ice lollies to cool down.
During the show, the hosts also discussed a government-commissioned report warning of a “Lost Generation” of young people out of work and on benefits. Independent Reviewer Alan Milburn criticised UK schools and the health system, stating the welfare state is “exacerbating” youth unemployment.
Weather presenter Laura Tobin provided updates on record-breaking temperatures, with parts of the South and South-East expected to hit 30 degrees Celsius. However, she noted criticism over litter at beauty spots.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am.
