Two years after throwing her husband out over his reckless behaviour and infidelity, a woman has reconciled with him – but her family still despise him and refuse to see him or even discuss him.
The woman, writing to Coleen in the Daily Record, explained that her husband had become increasingly distant and felt unfulfilled in his job. His behaviour escalated to drinking too much, smoking a lot of weed and having sex with several women. The infidelity was the final straw, and she asked him to leave.
Reconciliation After Therapy
A few months ago, the couple started having proper, honest conversations. Her husband has been having a lot of therapy and is remorseful for what he put her and their five-year-old son through. He explained he had unresolved trauma from his childhood, which he was finally addressing with his therapist.
They reconciled, and he now stays with them a few nights a week. She is not ready for a full-time commitment, so they are taking it slow, and he understands.
Family's Anger
Her family, who were amazing with childcare and emotional support during the separation, cannot believe she has let him back in. They are still very angry, and their refusal to see him or discuss him is making things tricky.
Coleen advises that the family are naturally protective because they don't want to see her hurt again. She suggests that in time they might come around if they see things are going well. She also recommends relationship therapy together and suggests the husband reach out to the family to explain face-to-face and offer an apology.
