Emmerdale has confirmed Dr Caitlin Todd's death following a tense showdown at Jacobs Fold. During Thursday's (August 6) episode of the ITV soap, Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) made an unwanted reappearance after her blackmail scheme and sexual assault on Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins).
Todd's Return and Threats
Todd entered Charity's residence uninvited after Charity had attended her support group for rape survivors, leaving her stunned. On Sunday (August 9), Todd maliciously claimed Charity was spreading falsehoods, reports The Daily Star.
Charity insisted that her attacker depart Jacobs Fold, but Todd declined and seized Charity's phone to prevent her from summoning assistance. Todd threatened legal action against Charity for defamation and continued to deny her actions.
Charity Confronts Todd
She also threatened to reveal to Charity's granddaughter, Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), that her infant daughter is actually the biological child of Charity and Ross Barton (Mike Parr). This provoked Charity's rage, and she restrained Todd on the sofa, grasping her hair, before delivering a passionate monologue about who the genuine deceiver is.
In an unexpected development, Charity felt emboldened and courageously reclaimed authority, offering Todd a glass of water and insisting that she be heard. She recounted to Todd the traumatic rape ordeal she endured as a teenager and how Todd's behaviour has now impacted her.
Sarah's Intervention
She pressed Todd to admit to her offence and recognise that there are additional victims of her appalling conduct. During the fraught confrontation, Sarah slipped quietly into Charity's home, missing any discussion regarding baby Leyla's true parentage, but was left horrified upon hearing the disturbing details of Todd's sexual assault on Charity.
Sarah slammed the front door to announce her presence and was left furious at Todd. As the doctor attempted to leave, Sarah pulled her back. "Where do you think you are going?" Sarah demanded as Charity insisted that Todd vacate the premises. Sarah continued, "So she just gets away with it? First, she bullies my husband, and then she attacks you", while Todd smirked.
Fatal Accident
As the altercation spiralled out of control, Sarah shoved Dr Todd, accidentally sending her crashing into a coffee table before she collapsed to the floor and lost consciousness. The scene shed light on why Todd's lifeless body was recently glimpsed in a flashforward sequence, but who will get blamed for the death?
