Foreign secretary Ed Miliband has been branded the "most dangerous man in Britain" in a scathing TalkTV segment. Kevin O'Sullivan was hosting his What Just Happened show with panellists Ash Gould and Samara Gill when a row about Miliband's future meeting with US president Donald Trump broke out.
Host's fierce criticism
On the programme, O'Sullivan fumed: "He's the most dangerous man in Britain. He has done irreparable damage to this country." Gould quipped: "But it's not his fault, is it? He's insane."
O'Sullivan continued: "He stands for everything that Donald Trump doesn't. It's crazy, this guy being our number one diplomat. I can't wait until he meets Donald Trump, I'd love to be a fly in the room then!"
Panellists' predictions
Gill then interjected: "If Donald Trump even has two minutes to meet with him. I don't think Donald Trump cares about this new foreign secretary, I think it's going to be really bad for our relationship."
Background: Rubio meeting
It comes days after Miliband was humiliated during a meeting with US secretary of state Marco Rubio on live TV. The pair met in Washington DC, where Miliband was confronted by journalists who hounded him about accusations he'd made that Trump is a "racist" and "misogynist".
Miliband was asked by a journalist as he shook hands with Rubio: "Mr Miliband, do you still think the president is an idiot, a racist and a misogynist?" but dodged the question completely.
Miliband's response
Later, in a one-on-one grilling, Miliband was asked: "Have your previous comments about President Trump, calling him a racist, a misogynist, your statements about Net Zero, been a hindrance to your relations with the Trump administration?"
His response was: "No, and in fact they didn't come up today. We had a very productive 90-minute conversation, in which we talked, yes, about Iran, but also about how we can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Ukraine against Russian aggression; about how we can work towards relieving the terrible suffering we're seeing in Gaza and have a two-state solution for the security of the Israeli and Palestinian people; and we talked about a range of other issues."
