A legal expert in the UAE has provided insight into the case of Lee Andrews, the husband of Katie Price, who is reportedly detained in a Dubai prison. Andrews was arrested over a civil matter, contrary to earlier claims of espionage. Price, who married Andrews earlier this year, has travelled to Dubai to seek his release.
Awatif Al Khouri, of Awatif Mohammad Shoqi Advocates & Legal Consultancy, explained to The Mirror that in the UAE, a person can be arrested for breaching a civil court order. The legal process involves a police complaint, prosecution investigation, and a criminal trial, during which bail may be granted with conditions such as a travel ban and a deposit of the accused's passport.
Reports suggest that Andrews may need to pay over £100,000 to secure his release, though Price is not expected to cover this cost. Al Khouri noted that in civil cases, an execution judge may release the debtor upon partial payment of the outstanding debt, with a schedule for the remainder.
Price has been updating fans on her efforts, stating she visited the prison to collect Andrews' belongings, including multiple phones. She expressed exhaustion and urgency, as her time in Dubai is limited. Visitation rights depend on the case status and prison rules, according to Al Khouri.
Andrews had previously gone missing and claimed he was kidnapped, but it is now believed he is held on a civil matter. The outcome of his case remains uncertain as Price continues to seek answers.
