Fans of Coronation Street are convinced they have identified the real killer of Theo Silverton, and it is not Summer Spellman, who has been a prime suspect in the ongoing whodunnit storyline on the ITV soap.
Summer Spellman under suspicion
Summer is one of six characters the show has hinted might be responsible for the crime. The other suspects include George Shuttleworth, Todd Grimshaw, Christina Boyd, Gary Windass and Danielle Silverton. Monday's episode and spoilers strongly suggested Summer's guilt, with evidence such as her presence at the flat and a creepy journal pointing towards her. However, many viewers believe this is a deliberate red herring.
While Summer did have a confrontation with Theo on the night of his death and was the last character seen with him, she has not disclosed this to anyone and is attempting to flee to the US for university early, raising questions about her involvement.
Sam Blakeman emerges as fan theory
Viewers are increasingly pointing the finger at Sam Blakeman, who has been experiencing hallucinations and possible psychosis. Fans speculate that Sam may have killed Theo by accident, mistaking him for his deceased father, Will. One fan posted online: "I'm saying Sam." Another added: "I think Sam killed Theo during one of his mental health breakdowns."
A third fan theorised: "I think Sam pushes Theo (thinking he was Will), and Summer is covering for him." Others noted a scene where Sam hallucinated near scaffolding, suggesting it could be a clue. One viewer wrote: "Was that scene of Sam hallucinating with the view of the scaffolding a hint to him being the killer of Theo thinking he was Will?"
The theory gained traction as another fan said: "I think Sam pushed Theo off the scaffolding while he was in a deluded state of mind maybe thinking it was Will." A final post read: "It's going to be Sam who killed Theo isn't it and he thought he was attacking Will?"
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
