Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) sensed he was making progress with Lucy (Anya Dewin) in Coronation Street today, which increased his guilt tenfold. Lucy is the teenage daughter of Tim's cousin Richie (Nathan Sussex), who is currently in prison after killing his wife Rachel. Lucy was present when the murder took place, which means she arrived at Tim and Sally Metcalfe's (Sally Dynevor) house traumatised and vulnerable.
The couple quickly realised they were very out of their depth when it became apparent that Lucy has a very short fuse. If she interprets something the wrong way, or it feels like someone is bad-mouthing her dad, she will react with anger.
Tim's confession to Lucy
Tim forged a very small connection with Lucy last week, when they sat outside and spoke about their interests. They don't have a lot in common, but the chat helped Lucy see that Tim and Sally are just trying to do their best for her. Lucy was informed by Sally in today's episode of the ITV soap that her mum's body had now been moved to the Undertakers. To Sally and Tim's surprise, Lucy stated that she'd like to visit the funeral parlour.
Lucy then asked Tim if he could go along with her for support. The young woman couldn't bring herself to actually go into Shuttleworth's, so Tim took her to the café. The chat they had left Tim feeling terrible. For the first time, Lucy was being very honest about how she was feeling, and Tim felt it was only fair for him to be truthful as well.
Lucy's devastating realisation
He shared the news that he told Richie to go back home instead of going to Liverpool, and it didn't take Lucy very long to work out that if Tim never did this, her mum might still be alive. It wasn't surprising that Lucy became very angry as she tried to process this. After a fight with Joanie (Savanna Pennington), Lucy made it clear that she didn't want to talk to Tim or Sally that evening.
All the progress they had made today had just been completely destroyed. What's next as Tim and Sally continue to try and navigate this very rocky road?
