Jeremy Clarkson broke down in tears during the latest episode of his Amazon Prime series Clarkson's Farm, as he was forced to give away all of his pigs because they were not financially viable. The 66-year-old former Top Gear star struggled to contain his emotions while saying goodbye to the animals at his Oxfordshire farm, Diddly Squat.
His butcher revealed that the particular breed of pig could only produce sausages due to the high fat content around the meat, making them unprofitable. Most of the swine were sent to the slaughterhouse, though two original mother pigs, Clumsy and Swizz, were spared and sent to a child-friendly farm. Clarkson told his girlfriend, Lisa Hogan, 'I couldn't really have handled it if they'd gone off to be eaten.'
In a heartwrenching moment, Clarkson petted one of the pigs and whispered, 'Good girl,' before covering his face with both hands and crying as the animals were driven away. Hogan comforted him, assuring him he had given them a 'good life.' The episode ended with an emotional montage set to Yusuf's song Father & Son.
This is not the first setback Clarkson has faced on the farm. He previously dealt with an outbreak of bovine tuberculosis among his cattle, which led to a lockdown. In the same series, Clarkson was also seen being rushed to hospital for emergency heart surgery, where he had a stent fitted to open a blocked artery. He later said he was 'days from death' before the procedure.
