Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been back living in the UK for less than two months, but it seems that already the British public aren’t keen on them living here. Since their return in August, The Duke of Sussex has been out and about in Britain, making numerous public appearances for causes he feels passionately about. Meghan Markle has not done the same, and instead has only been spotted out and about privately, whether that be driving her car or enjoying pub lunches with A-list friends. Their children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, have not been seen at all.
Poll shows majority want Sussexes to leave
While this could change, and Meghan could start making public appearances, it seems that the UK public aren’t keen for this to happen. This is because in a new poll, the majority of respondents have said they want Harry and Meghan to move back to the US - the country they called home since 2020 when they quit royal life here in Britain. In The Daily Express poll, which ran from 7am on October 2 until 8am on October 4, readers were asked: “Should Prince Harry and Meghan Markle move back to the US?”
A total of 96% said yes, the couple should return to their old lives in Montecito, California. Only 3% said no, they should stay in Britain. A small 1% of people said they don’t know.
Family keeps US home as UK base remains uncertain
These results are likely to be a blow for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex as it suggests their presence in the UK is not something Brits feel strongly about. This could be as a result of things the couple have said in the past that were critical of both Britain and the Royal Family.
While the family are treating Britain as their permanent base at the moment, with Archie and Lilibet now in UK schools, there are some signs that this may not be a forever decision. This is because the family have kept their US home in Montecito. It is believed they have no plans to sell it, and have even kept staff onboard at the home to keep an eye on it and feed the family chickens. It is not known how often they will be visiting this home across the pond.
Their decision not to sell is interesting, as The Daily Express were told just weeks ago that the couple’s US mansion has skyrocketed in value. This means that it would be an ideal time for them to sell. The family also still have their holiday home in Portugal, which suggests they are keeping a base for themselves elsewhere in Europe. This home, however, is unlikely to ever become a permanent home for the family.
Life in Britain so far
Since moving back to Britain, Harry and Meghan have not revealed the motivation behind their UK move. However, it seems they are enjoying life in Britain, with the couple spotted hand-in-hand going for a pub lunch just last week. Meghan has also shared insights into their UK life on Instagram, including videos of the family enjoying countryside walks and fishing.
