Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman clashed with host Fiona Bruce on BBC Question Time, accusing the audience of left-wing bias. The incident occurred during the October 1 episode, which also featured Miatta Fahnbulleh, Oli Dugmore and Julia Lopez.
Audience member criticises Braverman
A woman in the audience told Braverman: "Suella, I would say, I’ve not heard her say anything positive, once, throughout this whole debate. I would say it’s rhetoric like Suella’s and from the Reform party that is feeding discontent, lack of hope, and I think it’s really seeping into the nation’s morale."
Bruce responded: "I should point out, there are plenty of Reform voters in this audience that will not share that view, but I hear what you have to say."
Braverman, who defected from the Conservative Party to Reform UK under Nigel Farage, insisted: "It’s a very Labour audience. Very Labour-Conservative audience."
Bruce defends audience make-up
Bruce replied: "Er, would you like to know the make-up of the audience, Suella? As always, because we ask everybody here how they voted in the last election, how they intend to vote in the next election, we check all their social media. You have a number of Labour people here, more Labour people than Reform people. We have Conservatives, we have Reform, we have Green, we have ‘don’t know’s. Of course, what that does mean – if you think about Conservative, Reform, Lib Dem, who are of course here, and the ‘don’t know’s, they may not agree with you. That may feel like a lot. But there are Reform supporters here as well, who I’m sure do share your view."
Viewers side with Braverman
Some viewers backed Braverman on X. One wrote: "Oh god. I just watched BBC Question Time and it’s evident that the audience is handpicked to be as woke and left-wing as possible. You can almost predict the response before anyone’s even finished speaking."
Another added: "The bias on BBCQT is unbearable. Just listen to the awful tone of Fiona Bruce's question to @SuellaBraverman. ‘You say you're not English. What's that about?’ These deranged leftists don't seem to realise that English is an ethnicity. Suella handled this brilliantly."
