A spin-off of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! has been suddenly axed after more than a decade on screen, leaving fans disappointed.
Spin-Off Cancelled After 12 Years
The Australian version of the series, which launched in 2014 and was filmed in South Africa, featured British stars including Freddie Flintoff, Charlotte Crosby, and Vicky Pattison. The most recent series aired on Channel 10 earlier this year, hosted by Robert Irwin and Julia Morris, with radio presenter Concetta Caristo crowned Queen of the Jungle. However, on Friday, it emerged that the series had been axed altogether.
A statement from Channel 10 said: "We have made the decision to rest I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2027 as we focus on offering our audience a range of content on all platforms. We look forward to working with Julia Morris and Robert Irwin on other projects."
Hosts React to the News
Following the news, host Julia Morris said: "I’m A Celebrity and our whole jungle family who make this show have made it the best working experience of my lifetime. I have loved every moment and will be forever grateful to Beverley and the whole team at Network 10 for not only believing in this show but nurturing it for 12 years. And to our jungle family watching from home, we love you."
Robert Irwin, son of the late Steve Irwin and recent winner of the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, said: "I want to express what an absolute privilege it has been to work on this show for the past three seasons. I grew up watching this show as so many Aussies do, so to be part of the fantastic team that make this series a reality felt like a dream come true."
Fan Reactions
After the news broke, several UK-based fans took to social media to express their shock, and then relief, after initially thinking the British version had been cancelled. One wrote on X: "I cannot tell you the range of emotions I went through until I realised..." Another said: "The way I read this thinking I’m a Celebrity fully got cancelled and got scared for a sec."
However, others were disappointed that the Australian version would not return. One said: "Wow wrong move channel 10 sorry very disappointing," while another wrote: "That sucks I really enjoyed watching this show was funny and heart wrenching."
History of the Show
The format has been launched in various countries worldwide, including the United States, where over two seasons in 2003 and 2009, celebrities such as Melissa Rivers, Caitlyn Jenner (then Bruce Jenner), Spencer Pratt, and Heidi Montag competed. Since Ant and Dec launched the ITV reality survival show in 2002, the programme has seen numerous celebrities live in the Australian jungle, boosting the careers of stars like Katie Price, Kerry Katona, and Scarlett Moffatt.
Other spin-offs over the years have included ITV2 companion shows titled I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here...NOW! and Extra Camp, with the most recent version called Unpacked, fronted by Kemi Rodgers, Joel Dommett, and Sam Thompson.
