A website dedicated to Christian prophecy has claimed that the end of the world is nigh, suggesting the apocalypse began 100 years ago in Britain with the Balfour Declaration.
Countdown to the End
According to the website Christin Prophecy, the countdown to the end began in 1917 with the issuance of the Balfour Declaration by the British government. The declaration endorsed the creation of a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine, which then encompassed Jerusalem.
The website claims that FB Meyer, a leading Evangelical in England at the time, immediately recognised the prophetic significance of the Declaration, as he was aware that the Scriptures prophesy the Jewish people will be regathered to their homeland in unbelief right before the return of the Messiah.
Signs of the Times
Meyer sent a letter to Evangelical leaders in England asking them to gather in London in December to discuss the prophetic implications of the Balfour Declaration. In that letter, he stated: "The signs of the times point toward the close of the time of the Gentiles... and the return of Jesus can be expected any moment."
The website says that since the Balfour Declaration, there have been signs throughout the 20th century pointing to the Lord's soon return. These indicators include the largest conflict in human history, the formation of Israel as a nation, and natural catastrophes such as global warming, massive tsunamis including those of 2004 and 2011, and earthquakes.
Are You Ready?
Christin Prophecy states: "The bottom line message of the signs is that we are living on borrowed time. And the crucial question for every human being is 'Are you ready?' Are you ready for the return of Jesus? Will He come as your Blessed Hope or your Holy Terror?"
Nevertheless, it remains impossible to determine the precise date of Christ's return. The website references the passage Matthew 25:13, which reads: "Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour."
