During Thursday's episode of Lorraine, presenters Lorraine Kelly and Andi Peters said an emotional goodbye to a beloved colleague live on air. The show's director, Barry, is leaving the programme, marking a significant change for the ITV daytime staple.
Andi Peters Leads the Farewell
Andi Peters, who was presenting the competition segment live from Surrey, took a moment to acknowledge Barry's departure. 'I'd like to say good luck to somebody, Lorraine - to Barry, our director. This is the last time he gets to work with me and you. So, Barry, goodbye,' Andi said.
Lorraine optimistically added, 'For now! He's talking to me now,' pointing to her earpiece. Andi continued, 'We'd like to say goodbye to our family, part of our family. Goodbye Barry,' before noting, 'He's telling me to get on with it, so I better!'
ITV's Daytime Restructuring
Barry's exit comes amid broader changes at ITV following budget cuts last year. Lorraine was reduced from an hour to 30 minutes, with Good Morning Britain extended by half an hour to fill the gap. The show now airs for only 30 weeks out of 52, with GMB taking over until 10am during the off-weeks. Loose Women has also been cut to 30 weeks a year but retains its usual slot.
Kevin Lygo, managing director of ITV's Media and Entertainment Division, described the broadcaster as being in a 'transition.' He said, 'I recognise that our plans will have an impact on staff off-screen in our Daytime production teams. We will work with ITV studios and ITN as they manage these changes to produce the shows differently from next year, and support them through this transition.'
Life-Changing Competition
Earlier in the week, Andi Peters teased a 'never done before' competition on Good Morning Britain. He announced a prize of £115,000, with an additional £10,000 for a person of the winner's choice. Susanna Reid, visibly astonished, said, 'Love it!'
Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1 at 9.30am.
