Rick Robinson, 58, a former Royal Artillery soldier from Street, Somerset, won £500,000 in the Postcode Lottery this week, despite having completely forgotten he was still a player. He initially thought the call informing him of his win was a joke, but later discovered he had won £250,000 on each of his two tickets.
Rick had no idea his subscription was still active, and only believed the news when he checked his bank account for the direct debit. He was one of eight winners in the village of Street, near Glastonbury, after postcode BA16 0LW landed the monthly £250,000 prize on Saturday, August 29.
Winners' Reactions
Rick stood alongside his partner Sharon, 56, as the Postcode Lottery presented their prize. The couple were left shaking as they were handed two £250,000 cheques. Rick said: "I couldn't take it in, if I'm honest. It was too much to believe. I can't even comprehend how much that is. It's insane, an absolutely incredible amount of money." Sharon added: "Someone will need to scrape me up off the floor."
The Postcode Lottery, formerly People's Postcode Lottery, costs £12.50 a month to play, with guaranteed winners every day. Players use their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.
